With a stare like Dakota Fanning, slight resemblance to Kylie Jenner and curls to give Shakira a run for her money, some say she is the new Lana Del Rey. This new wonder is Ella Yelich-O’Connor. You can her ‘Queen B’ but to the music world, she’s known as Lorde. And bow down you will once you hear her amazing voice. Did I mention she is only 16?
Lorde is the New Zealand singer-songwriter that is making waves in the music world. Perez Hilton describing her as a “2013 version of Lily Allen with a good helping of Marina & The Diamonds!“, she dropped her first EP The Love Club this year in March.
Her first single ‘Royals’ debuted at number 1 on the New Zealand Top 40, the same day her album debuted number two on the album charts. Her second single ‘Tennis Court’ also debuted number 1 on the same chart a few weeks later, making her the first New Zealand artist to have four singles all in the top 20 of the charts.
Not even four months after her EP release, Lorde started making waves round the world. In England, ‘Tennis Court’ was played during the BBC coverage of the 2013 Wimbledon Championships Ladies Final. In the United States, after the release of ‘Royals’, 85,000 copies were sold in just one week. And in Australia, Lorde was called as the last minute replacement of Frank Ocean, who was meant to be the headliner for the 2013 Splendour In The Grass Festival.
Rumors around say we might expect Lorde’s full length debut album next month. Stay tuned!
In the mean time, watch her first hit, ‘Royals’.
